Cherry Garcia 5k

10:43 AM

How did I forget to write about my most recent 5k? The first one of this year?  This past Sunday, my dear friend Alison and I laced up our running sneakers and met at the Cherry Garcia 5k course.  It was exciting for us both as this was her first race and I have been on again and off again with my torn calf.  Here we are just aftering registering.

We got there fairly early and laughed at how serious some of the runners were.  I definitely run more for fun than for the seriousness of the sport, but much respect to those who take it very seriously.  Here's us posing at the finish line before we began:

We watched the 10k runners take off before we began our race.  Wow is all I can say. Kudos to them.  I was glad I wasn't in that race yet - I need to train much more.  Here's us getting lined up for our race:

It was a great course along the valley.  A flat road course, definitely want to do it again.

Alison whooped by butt my clocking it at 32 minutes.  I clocked is at 33:39.  My strategy was to start out strong because I knew either way I would fade, and I surely did.  I need more training.  Seriously.

I'm proud of my time and look forward to training for the next race in July, which is the Chunky Monkey 5k and is on the same course. That'll be a sure test of how much I've improved.

Last night I watched the Olympic Qualifiers for the 500m.  Those girls ran it in 15:19 and above! I have one word for them - AMAZING!

Now I definitely know I run for fun!

Summer Siesta Bible Study 2012 - Nehemiah - A Heart that Can Break

7:57 PM

After praying about it and praying about it some more, God led me to join this year's Summer Siesta study with Beth Moore as we travel through Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break. Beth is one of my all-time favorite Bible girls - a woman who knows her Word.  I first started using her studies when I first moved home in 2009 when I studies A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place.  That study helped me heal - ALOT - from the separation I was going through with my husband.

I am excited to yield my flesh to the Spirit and to dive into the Word. There's something about being tugged at to ask other ladies to join me that I feel like something major is going to happen. Accountability has just sky-rocketed.

Our group will share the answers to our discussion through an online Facebook group. The group is totally private and allows us to all connect in spite of our crazy busy schedules.

I am so grateful for the women who have agreed to join me on this journey. Lord I pray that you do something amazing in their lives. Honor their commitment, honor their decision to get to know You and Your Word more closely. Lord I pray that our lives are never the same after this summer. Your Will Lord. Your Way. Amen.

Head on over to the LPM blog to see if you'd be interested in joining. It's not too late. Our first assignment is open for 2 weeks. That's plenty of time for us to add you to the Facebook group and for you to get your book ordered. Just leave a comment saying you want in - and I'll add you to the group.

Thank you Lord.

Why I believe in this opportunity now more than ever...

8:06 AM

Last week my sister and I were invited to an opportunity night for another network marketing company.  We wouldn't have gone, but our dear friend and host wasn't certain that it was a "direct selling" company.  That's ok.  I love the chance to get to know about other companies out there and to meet others who are interested in building their dreams.

Over the past two years, I have been drinking up every bit of knowledge I can get my hands on about this industry.  I want to know the different compensation plans, the different methods of marketing a business, whether a business is focused primarily on "residual" income or do they have a consumable product that people actually want, etc.  I suggest anyone seriously considering joining a company get to know the industry this way.

One thing I've definitely learned, if a company offers a fast way to get rich, it's probably too good to be true.  If a company pushes residual income way more than they talk about building a strong business that starts with your customer base and builds up to you sharing the blessing you have received and teaching other's to do the same, it's probably too good to be true.

I recently watched as a company I was affiliated with a few years ago ended it's consultant portion of the business, leaving many people I had grown to know without that extra income. I had whispers from God about that company before I even joined.  I've never felt that with Scentsy.  Scentsy is growing....and growing fast.

Here's what I've learned over the past two years and why I know God brought Scentsy to me....

1. We are first rewarded for our own personal sales.  This means you must walk the talk first, and show those who are trusting you that it can be done.

2. In order for a sponsor to receive a bonus on anyone they introduce to the business, they have to first show them how to make money.  I have been involved with companies and seen many friends enter and exit companies whose primary focus is signing people up. You get paid a percentage of that person's enrollment fee but then you know what happens?  That person is never shown how to grow their business, how to make money of their own, and how to share the opportunity with others.  Once the sponsor gets paid that enrollment fee...that's it.  With Scentsy, it is our culture to help each other reach our dreams.

3. We are all top earners.  Of course, there are some of us in the company who earn way more than others....right now...but if you are joining Scentsy because you need to earn an extra $400 a month to make your car payment...you are a top earner.  If you need to earn $2,000 a month to stay at home with your children...you are a top earner.  Whatever your need is - once you set the goal and achieve it - you are a top earner.  I hate to see companies mass enrolling people and only a few make it to the top.  You can look at the Scentsy rolls where everyday, ordinary people have done extraordinary things.  No shiny BMW needed.  That's what I call opportunity.

This morning I wrote in my prayer journal that I hope God will show me more people and help me reach more women to help change their lives.  I know so many single moms out there struggling. It's time for a change. I wouldn't have done this for the past 2 years if I didn't have the God-confidence that it is changing my life and can change yours.

Read my Scentsy story, although it is changing every single day, and decide if you are ready to write your own.

An InstaReminder

5:00 AM

Sometimes life has a way of really trying to come at you.  Often, it is in the form of other's words.  Sometimes I am left with my tear streaked face wondering, why do people get me so wrong?  Why am I misunderstood.  Often during these times I can hear the Lord whisper to me, "there is nothing wrong with you. You are who I say you are. They need only to look in the mirror".

These words in the pictures above were a beautiful reminder that as a Daughter of God, nothing really matters what others say about you.  Yes people will try to defame your character. Who cares? I'm not talking about having haters. I'm talking about people being assigned by the enemy to try and break your spirit.

Remember, he is out there like a lion going back and forth devising ways to bring us down.  It is important for us to constantly remind ourselves that God's purpose for our lives always prevails.  You are strong. You are beautiful. You are worth.  You are valuable.  You are loveable.  Your are treasured. Your are a Daughter of God. Anything else doesn't matter.

2012 Cherry Festival

5:59 PM

This weekend my sister and I packed up our families and our cars and drove down south to Alamogordo.  This is our second time working the High Rolls Cherry Festival in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico, and we love it.

We also worked the Apple Festival in High Rolls last October, and it was fun to see how we've built up a little bit of a customer base that looks forward to us being there each year.  I think this will become a regular tradition in our business!

We had many enthusiastic shoppers and even had a bunch of people show interest in joining our team.

You can see my car was packed tight.  The little boy was asleep before we made it out of the drive-way.

Imagine having this as your office for the weekend.

One of our new customers walked into our booth and saw the bar display and said "I'm in heaven. If I wasn't in my right mind I would buy one of each!".

Our poor mountain communities across the state are suffering from extreme forest fires and extremely dry conditions.  We loved seeing Smokie the Bear out at the Festival. Smokie says no to forest fires and Scentsy says no to house fires!   Saturday it rained and it poured during the afternoon.  It was hard to be upset about the rain because we knew our forest needed it so badly. Pray for our state and those whose homes are in jeopardy.

...and the best part of this trip is that we get to spend quality time with our Queen, our Granny.  The kids didn't want to leave this morning (I'm sure it has something to do with her amazing cooking and all the fun things to do there).
